The University of Alabama Tuscaloosa was opened in 1831, on April 18, having the Reverend Alva Woods as President. The university had disciplinary and student behavior problem since the fist day it opened its doors. Strict rules regarding student conduct were established. This is what started the intention of turning the university into a military school. The institution suffered a fire in 1865, on April 4, started by the union troops. After the fire, the university was reconstructed and it was reopened in 1871.

▪ River Walk. Visitors can take a relaxing walk or a ride on the bicycle, across the trail located on the west side of Tuscaloosa, and the south area of the river.
